Erhard Gulyás’s passion for musical instruments emerged at an early age. He began his musical education in 1991 at Bartók Béla Music School in Békéscsaba, Hungary, specializing in bass guitar before switching to electric guitar, which he mastered through a combination of self-study and private instruction. Over the course of his 25-year musical
career, he played nearly 130 guitars—an experience that provided him with a solid foundation in both material knowledge and tonal shaping, which later proved invaluable in his journey as an instrument maker.
In 2010, he founded the Erhard Handmade Instruments brand. Two years later, he had the opportunity to study the art of violin making under master craftsman Péter Temesvári. The expertise and insight gained during this mentorship played a pivotal role –
not only in the creation of acoustic and archtop guitars, but also in shaping his entire philosophy and approach to luthiery. As a result, his body of work expanded beyond electric guitars and basses to include archtop instruments, A5 and F5 mandolins, and a variety of
acoustic guitars.
Each Erhard Handmade instrument reflects a deep passion for craftsmanship, artistic attention to detail, and a relentless pursuit of perfection – both in sound and aesthetics – while preserving the unmistakable character of hand-built instruments.
Artists who play Erhard instruments include (among others): Zsolt Benkő, Eleanor Young, György Ferenczi (1st Pesti Rackák), Gábor “Biga” Heincz, Róbert Hrutka, Szabolcs Kölcsey, András Lovasi, Dániel Lugosi (Polytrip, Pollyna), Misi Mező (Magna Cum Laude), Péter Modos, András Petruska, Attila Szabó (Csík Zenekar), and Tamás Verók (Margaret
Island).
